Ryleigh’s Oyster is proud to host our 13th annual Oyster Fest on Saturday, October 12, 2019 - this year in a BRAND NEW location. Oysterfest, previously held on E Cross Street out front of its flagship restaurant, will now take place at South Point, the waterfront seasonal venue situated on West Covington Park in Port Covington (101 W Cromwell Street)
“South Baltimore’s enthusiasm for this Festival has been outstanding and the time for an evolution has come,” Ryleigh’s relays. “We are proud of the work we’ve done in the past 12 years in hosting a major fundraising festival in the heart of historic Federal Hill, but the fact is that we have outgrown the “block party” constraints of E Cross Street, and being on the waterfront is where an oyster festival clearly belongs.” This shift in location is also wonderful news for out-of-town visitors previously deterred by a lack of parking – “we have that in spades at South Point” they note.
This annual food-and-entertainment draws calls thousands of oyster-loving locals and visitors alike to the city for a day full of bold Baltimore flavor & big-time fun. Put together with the mission of celebrating the opening of prime Chesapeake Bay Oystering season and educating attendees on the importance of the Oyster Shell Recycling, Oyster Fest celebrates Baltimore’s favorite bivalve while raising funds for the Oyster Recovery Partnership and Living Classrooms Foundation, Shipboard Department.
“We’re excited to once again join forces with Ryleigh’s Oyster for their biggest and best oyster fest yet,” said Tommy Price, Shell Recycling Alliance operations manager. “Not only does this event provide us the chance to educate and engage with our fellow oyster-lovers, the recycled shell is used for important oyster restoration projects right here in the Chesapeake Bay.”
Highlighting the seafood-studded food festival is the 9th Annual Baltimore Oyster Shucking Championship, presented by Ryleigh’s Oyster, taking place under the big top tent, Saturday at 330pm. Here festival-goers will witness the regions most skilled oyster-openers compete for the local title, over $1,000 in cash prizes, and paid sponsorship to the National Competition in St Mary’s
Oyster Fest features dozens of carefully curated tasting tents, oyster farms, bars and vendor displays all chosen for their unique commitment to the appreciation and preservation of the bold oyster. In 2018 Oyster Fest attendees slurped an incredible 30,000 oysters, with 15 different kinds of oysters from seven states! As always, local oysters are priced at just a buck-a-shuck. Hot food fans will find comfort in the form of fried oysters, grilled oysters, whole smoked fish, crab cakes, burgers and crab pretzels.
Live music from local artists featured throughout the day: The Wild Anacostias, Steel Drums and the Crawdaddies!
General Admission is free and open to the public but VIP ticket bundles and entry packages are available, and encouraged, in advance! A portion of all Oysterfest proceeds benefits the missions of Oyster Recovery Partnership and Living Classrooms Foundation, Shipboard Department.
